Make a difference to those impacted by domestic violence and natural disasters by hosting your own Dining For Change get-together during the month of October.

In October, we expect Dining for Change dinner hosts to bring together professionals and future professionals from coast to coast to network, socialize and engage in grassroots fundraising. Our goal is to raise over $250,000 in October (with an average of $25 per person) and show the world the power of beauty to effect change through our collective support industry related charities:

The Salons Against Domestic Abuse/CUT IT OUT is a program of PBA Foundation and is dedicated to mobilizing salon professionals and others to fight the epidemic of domestic abuse in communities across the United States. CUT IT OUT builds awareness of domestic abuse and trains salon professionals to recognize warning signs and safely refer clients to local resources.

The Disaster Relief Fund was established in 1955 to assist salons in rebuilding following the devastation of natural disaster. Over the course of five decades, the fund has been there for professionals in times of dire need.

100% of the Dining for Change proceeds will go to support the work of these charities.

Dining for Change is based on a shared giving model of philanthropy. Participants come together to connect, network and share a meal. Each guest makes a small, voluntary donation to the designated charities (i.e. $25) and combine their donations with others from across the country to elevate the collective giving of all.

Dining For Change is a fun, easy way to bring fellow professionals together in small groups across the country - to network, share, enjoy one another's company - and raise money for a good cause. We invite you to:

Host a get together with your fellow professionals, co-workers, business associates and/or clients

Encourage others to host their own get-togethers as part of a national network of professionals

Promote your support of Dining For Change and the industry related charities it benefits

Support the good work of the Salons Against Domestic Abuse's CUT IT OUT and the Disaster Relief Fund programs.

" Dining for Change is a grassroots fundraising initiative based on a new and growing model of localized charitable work called 'giving circles'-groups of individuals networked with other small groups to make a difference," explains Mark Goodman. "Our members told us they wanted more opportunities to connect locally and Dining for Change created that venue on their terms. We are so delighted that so many industry professionals accepted our dinner invitation. I am so proud of our members and profession, who by joining together on a local basis, raised more than $100,000 for our community service programs in 2009. That's the power of camaraderie!"

In October, beauty professionals across the country gathered at hundreds of dinners on a local level to network, share and enjoy one another's company as part of Dining for Change. They also raised $100,000 for those impacted by domestic abuse and natural disasters. PBA | NCA members and industry pros, from manufacturers and distributors, to salon owners, stylists, educators and future professionals, met at elegant dinners, picnics, potlucks, pizza parties and more, while benefiting the Salons Against Domestic Abuse/CUT IT OUT and Disaster Relief Fund programs. To continue the local camaraderie, PBA Foundation has designated October for the next get-together and encourages industry pros to hold their traditional breast cancer and domestic violence awareness/fundraising events under the Dining for Change banner. Dining For Change will benefit PBA Foundation's Salons Against Domestic Abuse / CUT IT OUT AND Disaster Relief Fund programs. As a part of their commitment to community service, PBA | NCA members have given literally hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours - and even more in dollars - to help those in need.

Be the change that you want to see in our world. Please join us and be a Dining For Change host in October.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is "Dining for Change?

Dining for Change is based on a shared giving model of philanthropy. Participants come together to connect, network and share a meal. Each guest makes a small, voluntary donation to the designated charities (i.e. $25) and combine their donations with others from across the country to elevate the collective giving of all. 100% of the Dining for Change proceeds will go to support the work of these charities:

The Salons Against Domestic Abuse/CUT IT OUT is a program of the PBA Foundation dedicated to mobilizing salon professionals and others to fight the epidemic of domestic abuse in communities across the United States.

Do guests need to donate a specific amount?

We recommend $25 per participant - but there is no right or wrong amount. If your guests are open to a larger donation, feel free to up the ante and collect more for charity. On the other hand, if your diners are students, for example, you may want to consider a lower amount.

What kind of dinners will be organized?

As a Dining for Change host, it's up to you! You decide on the kind of dinner, number of invited guests, location and suggested charitable donation by each guest.

Dinners will likely vary from ultra-casual to downright formal. Motifs may include everything from potluck, pizza party, casual sit-down dinner (at home, in the salon, at a restaurant, etc.) to fine dining and/or themed events - or perhaps a wine and cheese reception or late night dessert party. It's your event - so the choice is yours!

Who and how many should I invite?

It's up to you. Our goal is to connect professionals with professionals (or future professionals and educators with professionals or some other mix of industry colleagues) so that those attending are able to network as well as enjoy some good food, social time and some great giving.

We aim to register an average of 10 guests at each event, although we've already heard of plans for larger dinners (a beauty school pizza party for 75 and a Texas salon get together of 50!).

Can I use some of the donations to pay for the event I'm hosting?

The costs of the dinner can be taken care of in any number of ways. The following are examples to consider. Note that we used a $25 donation in each, but this is just a suggestion.

Have all the guests share equally in the out-of-pocket costs of dinner. For example, $240 in food and beverage costs divided by 12 people would come to $20 per person for dinner. Add to that $25 for charity (or an amount you are comfortable with) and each guest would be asked to pay $45 to attend - and $25 of each payment would go to charity.

Offer a potluck affair and assign each guest to bring a dish, beverage or supplies, and ask that each also donate $25 for charity.

Plan a dinner at a restaurant with either a preset menu or order off the menu. Every guest pays their share of the bill AND donates $25 for charity.

Host a beauty school pizza party. Donate the pizza and beverages and ask that the Students and Staff contribute a minimum of $5 for charity (75 people will raise a total of $375!)

One of our own "top chef" stylists is planning a one of a kind menu in her formal dining room at home. She'll provide the food and is going to have seating for just 12 - and charge $100 per seat with 100% of the funds going to charity.

Another stylist is planning a wine and cheese reception in the salon for staff and significant others. They plan to trade services for wine and cheese with a neighboring food emporium and are asking $25 per couple to attend—with 100% going to charity. She anticipates 15 couples-$375 for charity.

When the event is over, how do I send in my donation?

Once you have registered as a host, you will receive detailed information on how to make your donation. 100% of all funds collected will go to the charities. The allocation of funds between the programs will be based upon the needs of each charity.

Donations can also be made online by clicking here.
