The entry process and rules and regulations for entering NAHA online differ slightly from the standard entry method. Below is a checklist of the items you will need to enter NAHA online and a summary of the online entry process.
ONLINE ENTRY PROCESS OVERVIEW
This overview will explain the simple steps involved in the online NAHA entry process.
Step 1: You will need to register for a NAHA user account. Your NAHA entry will be tied to your user account. You will be able to access your entry at anytime by logging into your user account. While creating your account, you will be asked whether or not you are a member of the Professional Beauty Association. If yes, you must enter your PBA Member Number here in order to receive your discounted entry rate. After you create a user account, you will receive an Authorization Email with a link you will have to click on to authorize your new NAHA user account.
Note: Entries will be saved after each completed step of the entry process. You may continue your entry at a later time, but the online entry process must be completed and any physical components postmarked by February 2, 2009.
Step 2: Once you have authorized your newly created user account you can move on to the next step in the entry process. In this step you will need to pick the category you have decided to enter and answer some questions about your entry. You can only enter one category at a time, so if you wish to enter two or more categories you will have to submit a new entry from your user account.
Note: You must have your make-up artist's contact information ready in order to enter them in the Make-Up Artist of the Year category.
Step 3: Those entering the Editorial, Haircolor or Salon Design category (and those entering their make-up artist) will need to continue on to another page to fill out category-specific information.
Note: Those entering the Editorial Stylist of the Year category will be asked to prepare additional components for their entry, which must be mailed in along with the standard NAHA Release Form.
Payment: At this point, the only steps left in the online entry process are the payment and image uploading steps. However, to complete your NAHA entry you will need to download and mail in a signed release form. You must have a valid credit card on hand to enter NAHA online. After you enter your payment information, a Confirmation Email will be sent your address.
Note: Please keep your confirmation number on record. If problems arise with your entry, we will need this number in order to find your transaction in our system.
Image Upload: Now you are ready to upload your entry images to the NAHA website. You will need to upload your entry images and confirm them one at a time.
Note: Your images MUST be in a .jpg or .jpeg format and be less than 20MB (20,000KB) in size. Please upload your images in the order in which you wish to them to appear in your series. You will have the option to re-arrange and delete/replace images on the next step. If you are having problems uploading your images online, you have the option to skip this step and elect to mail in your images with your signed release form.
Entry Review: The entry review page will present you with an overview of all your entry information. Please verify that the information is correct because once you hit confirm, you will not be able to edit your entry again. On this page you will be asked to designate the order in which your images are displayed as a series. If you wish to replace any image in the series, you can do so from this page by deleting the image and uploading a new image.
Confirmation: Once you have reviewed and confirmed your entry, a page will pop up summarizing your entry. You MUST print out this page, so that you can mail or fax it in with your signed release form. IF YOU DO NOT INCLUDE THIS PAGE, WE CANNOT CONNECT YOUR ONLINE ENTRY TO YOUR HARDCOPY RELEASE FORMS.
Note: Those who skip the image upload step will not be asked to order their images and will be presented with a slightly different entry summary page. Please follow the directions on that page to complete your entry.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. RELEASE FORM. By entering NAHA, the entrant insures that the photographer(s), make-up artist(s), models and other parties involved in the production of each entry have authorized the entry. All parties involved must sign the release form. Please ensure that any modeling agency you are working with has confirmed the release form and that the agent representative has signed off on the NAHA release form. For more information to provide to your model and/or agency, you can download a general letter about NAHA here. The NAHA release form MUST be signed. Failure to return signed release forms will disqualify your entire entry.
2. REQUIREMENTS. Entry is limited to licensed cosmetologists and cosmetology students from the U.S., Canada and Mexico. All entrants must be licensed salon professionals, except in the Student Hairstylist of the Year category. Students may enter the Student Hairstylist of the Year category provided they are enrolled in cosmetology school or are performing required hours in a salon as of the entry due date. In all categories, models may be male or female.
3. PRICING. Non-Member Pricing: The entry fee for licensed cosmetologists is $65US per category entered. The entry fee for cosmetology students is $30US. All payments must be in U.S. funds.
PBA Member Pricing: Any owner, employee or student from a PBA member business receives a discount on the entry fee. The PBA member entry fee is $50US per category entered ($25US for cosmetology students). All payments must be in U.S. funds.
Not sure if you're a member? Need more information on PBA membership? Visit www.probeauty.org, call 800-468-2274 (480-281-0424) or email info@probeauty.org.
4. MAILING YOUR ENTRY. If problems arise during the online entry process after your payment is submitted. You may complete your entry by mailing your entry in along with a page that you will be asked to print.
If you decide to mail your images, you may ship multiple entries together in one package, but each entry should be treated as an individual entry. Each entry must include:
CD-ROM per entry containing images for that entry ONLY (include entrant name, salon/school and category on disc)
Printed images/thumbnails of your entry
Printed Entry Overview page (given to you when you opt to mail in your images)
Completed release form
Editorial Stylist Entry Information Form, if applicable
Every piece submitted must be clearly marked with the entrant's name, salon/school and category entered. Please do not use staples with your entry. Elaborate packaging of entry is discouraged. Everything listed above must be included in order to match your package with your online entry. Failure to include these items is grounds for disqualification.
5. IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS.
Those entering online must have their images prepared in JPEG (.jpg) format. Files must be RGB or grayscale, at a minimum of 300 DPI and no smaller than 6" x 9". The max filesize allowed to be uploaded is 20Megabytes(20,000KB).
If you end up needing to mail your images due to complications during the entry process, please abide by the following: All images must be submitted either online or on CD-ROM. DVD's will not be accepted. All image files must be in TIFF (.tif) or JPEG (.jpg) format. Files must be RGB or grayscale, at a minimum of 300 DPI and no smaller than 6" x 9". Photographs and slides will NOT be accepted.
6. PHOTO USAGE RULES. Images that have been used in other photographic hair competition programs in North America MAY NOT be entered into NAHA. You may use images from the same photo shoot, but the exact image must be unique. We discourage the same look and feel of images that are already being promoted by other contests. Any entries not adhering to this rule will be disqualified.
Any images used for commercial purposes (advertisements, posters, packaging, promotion, etc.) before July 19, 2009 (date of NAHA 20 ceremony) will be disqualified. To protect the "blind" judging process, entrants must hold editorial work from publication until after the NAHA finalists have been announced (May 1, 2009) unless entering the Editorial Stylist of the Year category.
7. MULTIPLE ENTRIES. Although you may enter each category up to two times, no entrant can be a finalist in the same category more than once. You may also use the same model in the same category or in another category, but you must enter a noticeably different image with the model in a different pose. You may only submit images with the same look and feel into two categories. Please be sure that your images fit that category.
There is one exception to this rule: The exact same image submitted in a category such as Haircolor or Texture may also be submitted in the North American Hairstylist of the Year category ONLY.
8. PHOTO MANIPULATION. Photo manipulation will be taken into consideration by the judges. It is neither encouraged nor discouraged (except in the Haircolor category; see below). Please use your best judgment when manipulation is considered. Remember, this is a photographic *hairstyling* competition!
Color manipulation of images is NOT permitted in the Haircolor category.
9. WIGS & EXTENSIONS. Please indicate on your entry form if full wigs or hair extensions have been used. There is no penalty for such use, except in the Haircolor category where full wigs are not permitted.
10. BEFORE SHOTS. When submitting "before" shots for the Haircolor categories, please use a recent photograph of the model. Old "before" shots thrown in at the last minute to meet the criteria will affect the way your entry is judged. Please name before and after images as such: "Model_1_Before" / "Model_1_After"
11. MAILING YOUR ENTRY. If you are entering online, you do not need to mail or fax anything in except for the Release Form. If you decide to enter by mail, please send all entry materials to: NAHA/PBA | 15825 N. 71st St., Suite 100 | Scottsdale, AZ 85254. You may submit multiple entries in one shipment, provided they each have all required materials and are clearly differentiated.
We suggest you track your shipment. You will not be notified when we receive your entry. Please keep a copy of your entry. No submissions will be returned.
12. DEADLINE: All entries must be postmarked by February 2, 2009. No exceptions will be made.
