The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) couldn’t be prouder to be the official U.S. representative to Organisation Mondiale Coiffure (OMC), the sponsors of the world’s premier hairdressing competition: OMC HairWorld Championships of Beauty. The 2012 competitions are just around the corner, this October 6-8, in Milan, Italy.

USA will be represented by four teams comprised of the nation’s top artists. Each competition tests the stylists’ creativity, skill, and ability to perform under pressure, leading up to the final day when one competitor is named World Champion.

Amanda Smoot is a 2012 trainer, and herself a world competitor and medal holder. She explains the three big P’s of the team’s training regimen as they prepare for the big competition: Practice, Prepare and Perfect.

“We have a young and energetic team this year,” Amanda said breaking down the competition. “Usually the trainer designs a style, cut, color and finish work for the technical ‘Creative Day’ and another for the ‘Hair by Night’ category. In our training sessions, we break each component of the look down, step-by-step, one element at a time, and teach each element. Then the enhancements: Color techniques and how to create and apply ornaments, make-up has to be airbrushed, drapes or clothing made. The intent is to tell a story and put together a total look. We have five months to prepare and the teams practices every day.”

Join us in rooting for our USA Champions!
