More than 70 salon professionals came together this past September 10, 2012, for the Professional Beauty Association’s (PBA) first Regional Salon Summit to spend an insightful day with industry leaders, including Vivienne Mackinder, Gordon Miller, Terri Cowan and Neil Ducoff.
the Summit was the first of many regional events and a transition from PBA’s Symposium in Las Vegas.
Hosted by PBA member distributor Essential Salon Products in Holliston, MA., the Summit was the first of many regional events and a transition from PBA’s Symposium in Las Vegas. The goal of these more localized events is to bring high-level business education to salon/spa and beauty professionals. The September event exceeded expectations.
The day began with PBA Government Advocate and owner of CoCo Cheveux salon in Portland, Maine, Tiffany Cowan urging attendees to keep abreast of the issues that are affecting the Industry, specifically deregulation and proper tip reporting. Gordon Miller of Passion Squared kept the day rolling with a discussion on the newest trends in Social Media. Salon owners and managers in the audience were engaged and asking questions one after another to make sure they were following the right steps to ensure growth in their businesses.
After social media was thoroughly discussed, the topic switched to leadership. Terri Cowan of Professional Salon Concepts provided answers to the tough questions of salon and staff management. Terri’s experience in the professional beauty industry as a distributor, school owner and salon consultant provided the group real-world examples of how to work with staff and improve the salon environment.
The day continued with a networking lunch where salon owners discussed salon life. Following the luncheon the topic of leadership continued with an inspiring presentation by Vivienne Mackinder. Vivienne is a certified trainer of The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and brought seven of the “laws” to the Summit attendees. The day ended with Neil Ducoff of Strategies showing the group how to “Achieve Extraordinary”. His inspiring message was relevant to both salon owners and beauty professionals alike.
Moving into 2013, PBA will be producing three Regional Salon Summit’s across the country. Each event will provide high-level business education for both salon owners and beauty professionals. Dates and venues will be released in late 2012. For more information about upcoming Regional Salon Summit’s, contact Jessi at firstname.lastname@example.org.
