PBA’s 2013 Distributor Executive Conference (DEC) showcased the growth of independent distribution with 70 attendees representing 44 different professional beauty distributorships. The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) was pleased such a large amount of growth from the first event held in 2012.
Based on the great feedback from the first Conference, several changes were made to create a better experience for the attendees. The conference was expanded from one day in 2012 to a full day and a half for 2013 to allow for more discussion around each of the topics. The overall theme of peer-to-peer discussion remained unchanged. There are no other events similar to the DEC in our industry and it was important that networking and education were the top priorities.
The 2013 Conference was hosted by Steve and Terri Cowan of Professional Salon Concepts (PSC), in Joliet, IL. Their beautiful facility was the perfect location for the distributor attendees to network and learn. The PSC educational venues housed the attendees and working groups in a way that encouraged discussion and learning. PBA would like to thank the Cowan’s and their staff for allowing us into their “home”.
The day was divided into topics, with panels of current and former distributors serving as experts for each topic. The attendees were eager to start the conversation right from the beginning. From the first question until the program ended the room was abuzz with active and passionate conversations. A new addition to this year’s program was the Sales Manager’s Round Table. While the distributor principals were busy discussing their topics, 18 sales managers were together in deep conversation about the best practices for growing and coaching distributor sales consultants.
Distributors in attendance had the opportunity to discuss Vendor Relations and Manufacturer Contracts, Education, Professional-Only Stores, and Sales Force Management. Attendees learned about new and different business models with each other and the panelists, who included some of the industry’s most well-known distributors. Panelists included Jennifer Almonte, Terri Cowan, Jim Deberry, Josh Hafetz, Mike Hicks, George Learned, Jim Marshall, Debra Baker-Neill, Glen Pacek, Bob Peel Jr., Renee Shakour, and Karl Sweis.
One of PBA’s many goals is to provide quality and relevant education for our membership. The Distributor Executive Conference will be one of many opportunities distributors will have to network with peers while keeping abreast of the newest opportunities and latest trends.
