AB 1513
Piece-Rate Legislation

CALIFORNIA PIECE-RATE LEGISLATION (AB 1513) SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACTS THE SALON INDUSTRY

On January 1, 2016, a number of new California employment laws went into effect, including AB 1513 addressing piece-rate pay issues.

The Professional Beauty Association has been actively working on AB 1513 since January 2016. Here are a few key actions we are pursuing to help clarify what these changes mean to the professional beauty industry:

  • PBA Legal Counsel has and will continue to prepare, analyze and consult on options and case law regarding AB 1513 origins and the impact on other industries;
  • The PBA Government Affairs Department has engaged with members of the California State Assembly, and the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) to address these changes. PBA will continue pursue and monitor all options throughout the 2017 Legislative session to minimize the impact on our members.

This is just a snapshot of what PBA has been doing to find a reasonable solution to this legislation. Once a clear plan is in place, we will need everyone’s help in sharing ongoing information. In the meantime, please keep checking this page for updated information.
