A great resume highlights your skills, experience and what sets you apart from your peers. In creating your resume, you will uncover how much you’ve accomplished and end up with a great tool to present to potential employers. Read on to learn all about resumes and to begin creating yours…
How Do You Get Started?
The most important part of your resume is the contact information. Provide your name, email address, and links to any relevant social media accounts.
Beacon TIP! Take a look at your contact information as if you’re an employer. Avoid nicknames, silly email addresses and social media accounts that are for personal use. It’s time to step up how you present yourself.
Outline your education → Provide dates of attendance, personal achievements and an overview of what you learned. Employers want to see extracurricular & volunteer activities, so they can learn more about you.
Beacon TIP! Include short descriptions to accompany your activities. If you participated in a club or event, explain how it worked and what you did.
Detail your work history → When providing job responsibilities, consider how your experience applies to the job you are interested in. For example, if you were a waiter and upsold beverages, that’s just like selling product to a client!
Beacon TIP! It’s ok if you haven’t had a job yet. But think about other experiences you can highlight, like working on a school play or volunteering at a summer camp.
Personalize and highlight your skillset → Make sure your resume communicates your strengths and what sets you apart from others.
