In today’s quickly evolving beauty retail and business landscape, customers expect a high-tech brand experience, but still want a human connection. The PBA Executive Summit brings the most cutting-edge thought leaders to the forefront to help spark new ideas and keep the beauty industry’s executives ahead of the disruption curve, including Kate Ancketill, Founder and CEO of GDR Creative Intelligence.
Kate leads a research team that combines investigative journalism with connections to more than 2,000 global agencies and empowers innovative processes with a wide perspective and precise focus. Using personalized tools and curated advice, GDR assists businesses in achieving innovation. However, Kate recognizes that personal experience is at the heart of the beauty industry.
With a deep understanding of building relationships to create the future, Kate shares, “The beauty industry is incredibly dynamic, with so many exciting new ideas, formulations, products and brands. We’ve seen new services and technology being leveraged in all kinds of novel ways. How brands connect with, and serve, consumers are also changing. To survive in this industry you need to be aware of this; build relationships and connect with people from top to bottom. The PBA Executive Summit is one forum for that interchange.”
Executives must do two things: understand the beauty industry and understand the world, Kate explains, and cites the Professional Beauty Association as an amazing network that provides tools to help understand the industry. “I think it’s great that the PBA connects from top to bottom – often great insight comes from people who are not executives or managers, but those in the salon, dealing with the day-to-day needs and issues of people.” But Kate also feels that executives need to find time to look outside of the beauty industry.
“You cannot forget that beauty is an intimate, personal experience for any user. Beauty is often a manifestation of who you are, or want to be, as a person. At the heart of all beauty is this intimate sense of personal identity. Technology and online are just channels to achieve connections, but they exist to serve human beings – and ultimately make their lives better. Anyone who isn’t people focused in our industry cannot, in my opinion, really succeed – and that starts from the top, by establishing a people (not consumer) focused mindset,” Kate explains.

With her finger on the pulse of technology, innovation, and business trends, Kate will explore where beauty leaders should focus their business efforts to stay ahead of disruptive curves. With topics covering the intersection of digital and physical retail, mobile commerce, and experiential retail, Kate’s presentation will be sure to enlighten beauty leaders on the latest evolvements in the retail landscape.
“This is my first time at the PBA Executive Summit, and I’m anticipating lots of idea sharing and I hope people will be open about their challenges and how they plan to succeed in the future. Openness benefits all, and collaboration is, for many, the future.”
