The Professional Beauty Association’s 2016 International Salon and Spa Expo Attracts  Thousands of Attendees, Sold-Out Education and Big Names in Professional Beauty

Social Media Influencers, a Hairbrained Teach In and Beauty Pitch Kick-Off Round out the West Coast Show

Phoenix, AZ (February 5, 2016) The International Salon and Spa Expo (ISSE) serves as a platform to bring together licensed professionals and connect them with high-quality stage presentations, education and exhibitors.  2016 marked another great year for ISSE with over 35,000 attendees, 200 education classes and 400 global manufacturers. The International Salon and Spa Expo will return to Long Beach, CA on January 28-30, 2017.

“Each year the International Salon and Spa Expo provides the beauty professional with hundreds of quality education classes, access to global manufacturers, and an opportunity to interact with professionals from all sectors of beauty.  This year didn’t disappoint – the 2016 show continued ISSE’s trajectory as the west coast’s biggest, must-attend beauty show,” said The Professional Beauty Association’s (PBA) Executive Director, Steve Sleeper said. “The Professional Beauty Association is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive trade association serving professional beauty.  Our staff is always looking for new and exciting ways to support the industry. Even though we just wrapped up 2016, the PBA staff is already working on next year’s show.”

ISSE 2016 Highlights:

Education classes: Over 200 education classes in hair, nail, skin, wellness and business were offered exceeding the number of education classes offered at previous shows. New education classes included complimentary hair education by Pravana, and two sold out hands-on classes from Butterfly Loft Salon.

Special Guest Educators: Celebrity hairstylist, Ted Gibson, returned to ISSE for his second year offering educational classes with his artistic team as well as complimentary stage performances. Tracey Hughes, the first international headliner to be featured on the ISSE Center Stage, transformed live models during her stage performance.

Stage Presentations: Presenters included Chrystofer Benson and Tabatha Coffey styling from their new collection, two-time NAHA texture finalist, Lauren Moser recreating her favorite NAHA looks, and two-time NAHA Hairstylist of the Year Winner, Charlie Price, debuting his collection from the online webinar series, Deconstructing NAHA.

Nail Spot: The Nail Spot returned for its second year and featured special educational offerings to nail technicians including the importance of nail salon safety, instant artist certification with ORLY, and complimentary sessions taught by NAILS Magazine’s Next Top Nail Artist Winner, Lavette Cephus.

PBA Beauty Bar: The Beauty Bar provided ten participating sponsors the opportunity to showcase their products to thousands of ISSE attendees for a good cause. In total, $6,000 was raised to benefit the PBA’s Disaster Relief Fund which supports salon professionals in need.

INSPIRE and Beauty Pitch 2016 Launch: ISSE also served as the launch pad for the new INSPIRE evening event to be held during PBA Beauty Week and sponsored by Cosmoprof North America (CPNA).  INSPIRE will be held on Saturday, July 23rd and will feature Beauty Pitch 2016. Social Influencers: In an effort to include more makeup professionals at ISSE, PBA partnered with social media stars and celebrity makeup artists, Angel Merino and Lora Arellano, owner of Melt Cosmetics. These two celebrities were met by hundreds of ISSE attendees.

Competitions: Competitors in Hair, Nails and Barber showed off their skills at the 2016 event. The PBA Hair Competitions included, “A Night at the Oscars ®”, a new category for 2016 and the Major League Barber Battle returned with four explosive categories: Traditional, Fastest Fade, Original Tag Team, and new for 2016, Student Traditional.
